Guided Setup with Ru

When you sign in to a brand-new workspace as its owner or an administrator, the dashboard opens as a guided setup conversation with Ru, the Runnit assistant. Ru asks a few friendly questions, one at a time, and does the setup work for you. The guided setup chat is free: it does not use your workspace’s AI credits.

Nothing about guided setup locks you in. The rest of Runnit stays fully available in the sidebar, you can leave the dashboard at any time, and coming back resumes the same conversation exactly where you left off. Team members who join while setup is underway see the normal dashboard.

A small checklist beside the chat tracks three things, phrased as what Ru has learned so far.

Ru asks for your organisation’s name and website, reads the website if you have one, and asks how you work: a brand or in-house team doing your own work, or an agency working for external clients. Runnit’s planning behaves differently in each case (in-house teams plan around people’s time and capacity; agencies get budgets and billable planning), and Ru configures this for you. Ru also records your own role.

Ru then generates your organisation’s own brand guidelines the same way it does for clients: it asks one optional question about your brand (how it should sound, key competitors, links worth reading), and you can attach your own brand materials (style guides, decks, PDFs) right in the chat for Ru to read and use. The research and writing run in the background while setup continues, and the finished documents land in your organisation’s Brand Guidelines collection.

Tell Ru who your clients are in whichever way is easiest:

  • type a quick list (names alone are enough, websites help);
  • download the client list template from beside the chat, fill it in, and upload it; or
  • just describe them in a sentence or two.

Ru creates each client, then asks one optional question about the brands: what each client does, how they should sound, and who they compete with. You can also upload existing materials (style guides, decks, PDFs) or paste links, and Ru saves them into each client’s Reference Docs so the research uses them. Skip any part of this and Ru researches it instead.

Ru then starts researching and writing brand guidelines for each client in the background. This takes several minutes per client. Each generation appears as a job in the Automation Queue, you can ask Ru how it is going at any time, and you are notified when it finishes. The finished documents land in the client’s Brand Guidelines collection under Clients, Brand Assets.

Give Ru up to a few email addresses and answer one question for each person: do they need administrator access? Ru sends the invitations with the right roles. For bigger teams, download the team import template, fill it in, and upload it; Ru shows you a preview to confirm before anyone is invited.

The free plan includes 5 seats, and pending invitations reserve seats too. If you need more, Ru points you to the upgrade page and you can invite the most important people first.

Signed up just for yourself? Ru starts by asking whether the workspace is for your own projects or for an organisation or team, so you are never asked to confirm an organisation you do not have. Tell it whether you are running a team, managing your own client work, or keeping personal projects on track, and it configures the workspace to match. Personal project tracking skips budgets, rate cards, and client setup entirely, so nothing financial gets in your way.

Every part is optional. Tell Ru to skip anything and it is recorded without fuss; you can come back to it whenever you like.

To stop the guided setup entirely, use Set up later at the top of the page or simply tell Ru. The dashboard returns to normal, everything you did is saved, and Ru stays available from the top right of the app. Ask Ru to “continue setting up Runnit” at any time and it works out what is done, what is left, and picks up the conversation from there.

When everything is covered or skipped, Ru finishes setup and your dashboard shows your real workspace, with the Runnit Today checklist continuing to guide the finer details.

Changed your mind after closing or finishing? Ask Ru to “reset onboarding” or “bring back guided setup” at any time. The guided setup dashboard returns, everything done so far is kept, and the conversation picks up where it left off. Owners and administrators only.

At any point during setup (or later), ask Ru to book a demo and the Runnit team will reach out directly to arrange a time. If you would rather talk to a person than a chat, this is the fastest path.

  • Image and video generation are not available inside the guided setup chat. Brand guidelines are written as documents you can open and edit.
  • Guided setup is only shown to owners and administrators of a new workspace.
  • Prefer doing everything yourself? Follow Set Up Runnit for the manual checklist. Both paths end in the same place.
